At 3:15 Wednesday morning a massive BOOM was heard across dozens of miles, spooking pets, waking light sleepers and apparently not disturbing my beauty rest - but what was it?

The official line is "atmospheric indigestion." In other words, lightning went off without the usual rain that accompanied it, echoing out into the otherwise still night. Of course, those who heard it - from different locations 20 and 30 miles apart - are theorizing it was everything from aliens to a secret government drone (presumably breaking the sound barrier) to an unknown force descending on South Texas. Anyone have a better theory?

All I know is, I slept through it. Dang it.
