So, because of the movie, I went and bought the Hiroshi Sakurazaka novel last week. I gotta say, it was a pretty good read, I marathoned it and finished it in about 5 hours. It's Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers with less politics.

Anyway, I'd like clarification on something... spoilers...

How is it that Rita recognizes Keiji is caught in a time loop after he brings up green tea in their first conversation during the PT exercise?

Chronologically: Keiji is dying on the battelfield, Rita shows up and comforts him, she asks him about green tea then leaves him, Keiji manages to get up and kill a Mimic (which turns out to be the server), dies but gets caught in the time loop.

She wasn't in a time loop herself because she escaped it a while back in Florida, Keiji would remember the green tea conversation because he's in the loop, not her, right? Or did I miss something?

I wonder how the movie will end... she dies like the book? He dies? Both live?
