Questions answered, enemies abound, and the traditional awkward Christmas family gathering all show up in Matt Smith's swansong as The Doctor.

This apparently 'exclusive' trailer (cue the screeching of UK fans quibbling vaguely about the license fee and whatnot) has got an absolute ton of new footage in it, including a glimpse of Christmas with the Oswalds, The Doctor's 'old friend' Tasha Lem - who looks like she's a turncoat, given her threats to restart the Time War anew - and oodles of monsters. Interestingly though, it hints we're going to be going back and filling in some of the unanswered questions of Matt Smith's era, including just what was behind The Doctor's hotel room door in The God Complex - we already know Moffat wants to cover things like the nature of the Silence's prophecy and Madame Kovarian's 'endless, bitter war', so it looks like we're going to be wrapping up the Eleventh Doctor's timeline in a neat little bow.

Not before we make him turn into Peter Capaldi though!

The Time of The Doctor airs on Christmas Day at 7.30pm on BBC One, 9pm on SPACE in Canada, and 9pm on BBC America in the US - where it is preceded by a special Farewell tribute to Matt Smith (same for the Canadian broadcast, too!).
