My office is trying out a book club after a bit of a hiatus and I thought I'd ask ODeck to help with some recommendations. Of course I'm looking for some sci-fi/fantasy title representation, so please pile them on here. It'd probably be best if they weren't series and were a bit more accessible to people not very familiar with genre stuff (so probably no Gibson).

The problem I'm running into is that one of the rules is it shouldn't be something I've read before. So that probably narrows it down to something released recently (Nothing too classic/canon for fans like us eg. Ender's Game, Slaughterhouse 5, 1984, Hitch Hiker's etc.). This is my own nitpick, but I usually don't like first-person narrative, but feel free to ignore.
