I'm probably going to pick up Dragon Age: Inquisition in a couple of weeks, because it looks pretty solid and I'm a big Bioware fan. Also, there are no other AAA titles due out this year that I'm interested in.

Still, I've never been a huge fan of the franchise. I have the first two games on my computer, but I never got very far in either one. In both cases the universe and the storyline seemed interesting, but the execution was kinda meh. My biggest hangup with both was the linear structure and near-total lack of exploration, which Bioware seems to have addressed with DA:I. With this new game, it seems like they've found a nice balance between tactical/action-based combat, free-range movement, and character/class development that was missing from the previous installments.

That said, should I play DA and DAII before making the plunge? Apparently there's an app that will allow you to continue the storylines from the first two games, a la ME3. I enjoyed playing both games — even DAII, which doesn't seem to be anyone's favorite — but ultimately I wasn't hooked. I can't shake the feeling that if I'd stuck with them for just a little bit longer I might have gotten more out of them. And seeing as how they've been sitting on my hard drive for the better part of 4-5 years, I hate the thought of them never being played.

Any advice on how to optimize my experience in terms of classes and characters (especially the original game) would be greatly appreciated.
