Time for another DCTV related FOTD. Today, we’re looking at Sean Pertwee, the son of Third Doctor actor Jon Pertwee, who plays Alfred on Gotham.

Did you know that Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred on Gotham, is the son of Third Doctor actor Jon Pertwee, dressed as the Third Doctor for Halloween?

I found this on my journeys through the web looking for things related to actors involved with DCTV projects. Sean does a great job playing Alfred on Gotham, and I thought this was really cool to see. He also posted an Instragram picture of his face superimposed on his father’s body, showing how remarkable similar they look to one another.

Don’t expect to see him taking the role over from Capaldi when he decides to put away the sonic screwdriver fod good however. He did reveal in an interview with the UK Telegraph 2011 that he had placed a bet on himself to get the role as a joke but wouldn’t feel he could replace his father.

A year ago it was rumoured you wanted to take over as Doctor Who from David Tennant. is that true?

No, I never said I wanted the part, but there is a financial tale behind how the rumour started. For a laugh I tried putting a £50 bet on me to play the next Doctor because I thought I was in with a chance, but all the boys I knew in Islington decided I must have some inside info so they piled in behind me. When the betting shop staff asked who I was, the boys told them my father had played Doctor Who so they called head office about it and then declared all bets off. The next thing I knew I was in the news as running for the part, but I think it stemmed from trying to put £50 on myself. I’d love to have a guest part, but when it comes to the main role my father was too big an act to follow.

Pertwee is a supporter of Capaldi as the Doctor. He remembers Peter coming to his father’s funeral.

Sean, son of Third Doctor, Jon Pertwee, has said how his Musketeers co-star Peter Capaldi, will be “stupendous” as the Doctor. While filming the bloody period drama in Prague last Autumn he said,

I think he’s going to bring some real gravitas and weight, which only comes with age. Taking nothing away from Matt [Smith], who I thought was great, I just think he’s going to [be] stupendous.

And it turns out that Capaldi was known to Sean and indeed his father before. In the interview Sean talked about how John was “very fond” of Peter, that the Pertwee household were “delighted” at his casting and that he was,

…an extremely lovely gentleman. He was very kind to my family when my father passed away, he was big fan of my dad’s actually.

I wish Sean nothing but the best. I’ve enjoyed his inpretation of the Alfred character and hope he gets a lot more to do in Season Two. I also wish you all a pleasant day, and I will see you on the next Fact Of The Day.
