Prior to the premiere of Knight Rider in September of 1982, NBC released this promotional flyer comparing the specs of their technologically superior KITT car to the decidedly more simplistic features of the Duke boy's 1969 Dodge Charger.
The Dukes of Hazzard was the number 2 rated network show in the U.S. during the '80-'81 television season. It was broadcast on CBS who were just dominating the ratings at the time and NBC was trying to make a play for those viewers with their very own car-centric series.
I distinctly remember a friend of mine showing me this piece of paper and with the utmost gravity explaining to me why Michael Knight's highly customized 1982 Pontiac Trans Am was the clear winner and how we must watch this new show.
