So I'll just share it with you, and you can come up with your own wording. The National Research Council of Canada has decided that science that is not commercially viable is a detriment to society and will thus not be supported any longer. The NRC is the part of Canadian government in charge of scientific research. Just about the most anti-science stance I can think of from a western government.

According to the Science Minister:

"There is only two reasons why we do science and technology. First is to create knowledge ... second is to use that knowledge for social and economic benefit. Unfortunately, all too often the knowledge gained is opportunity lost."

Just... ugh.
