Hello. My name is SpearthrowerOwl and I've just had an ice cream.
I've lurked and commented here for several months, and have interacted with some of you already, but only now do I wield the power of posting. I already have a few ideas about what I could write about, but I thought I'd post a short something about myself first, so, when I write my next post, I won't feel the added pressure that comes with writing one's very first post. If that makes sense.
So: I was born and raised in Italy by a mixed American and Italian family, and have spent the last 4+ years living and studying in the UK—first four years in Cambridge, last few months in Norwich. Though I've flirted with Biological Anthropology, the days of collecting monkey excrement are well behind me, as I have made a successful transition to the world of archaeology. I'm particularly interested in ancient art, and Pre-Columbian stuff especially, and, to get the shameless plug out of the way, I blog about these things here. (Spearthower-Owl is, by the way, the name of an actual Maya king.)
The best books I've read in the past few months include Kristin Cahsore's Fire and Bitterblue, Jesse Bullington's The Folly of the World, and Iain Banks' The Wasp Factory. The last amazing sf film I've seen at the cinema was Pacific Rim, and my favourite game is BioShock 2. And I've recently finished a year-long project of watching the entirety of Buffy and Angel—but couldn't help skipping most of Buffy Series 6 and, fearing another stupid "Gunn used to be street, now he isn't anymore" episode, "That Old Gang of Mine" from Angel Series 3.
That's about it. I'm very excited to have a place now where I can legitimately write/share about sci-fi/fantasy stuff!
