First thought driving home is that I wasn't disappointed by the film. I expected it to be pretty nonsense and it pretty much was pretty nonsense, just like Tron:Legacy. I really wish someone would get Joe Kosinski a great script. His visual style is amazing, both films have good pacing but I just can't bring myself to care about any of the characters which pulls me out of the experience.
WinnieTheWoot and I made snide comments throughout which is not a good sign when you're watching a movie for the first time. Sally was obviously not everything she presented herself to be and Winnie called the clone; actually her mantra was "Don't be a clone. Don't be a clone. Don't be a clone" right up to the moment he was a clone. I'd been dreading the clone from the beginning when Jack mentioned the memory wipe and cast a Moon vibe over the whole thing.
In our first run-through of Buffy the Vampire Slayer we just got to the end of season six this past week at which point I said that of all the tragic Whedon deaths that Tara's was the least upsetting I'd ever seen. Winnie took Victoria's death here even less to heart - she was actually glad to see Vicka meet her demise.
Winnie was also unhappy with the nonsensical GLADoS style computer and the pyramid within a pyramid that that served no apparent purpose. I felt it was just another example of Kosinski's tendency to let his visuals drive the story regardless of logic rather than letting the visuals serve the story and move it along to a sensible conclusion.
One final thought: What happened to the (at least) 50 other Jacks?
