Legendary industrial designer Kenji Ekuan died this past weekend of a heart problem. His career produced the Komanchi bullet train and the Yamaha VMAS motorcycle (among loads of other things), but perhaps his most iconic work is the Kikkoman soy sauce bottle, which everyone reading this has seen and/or used at least once.

Ekuan strove throughout his life to not have a signature design style; he felt that the "democratization" of design should be the goal. He most wanted to design things that people would use every day, and he succeeded.
