Bookies have closed betting on Kris Marshall becoming the next Doctor Who after a flurry of large bets were placed on the possibility that the actor will take over the role from Peter Capaldi. Similar spikes in betting activity immediately preceded announcements that Matt Smith and Capaldi were Time Lords elect.

But while bets are off for Marshall who recently left cuddly whodunnit Death in Paradise, The Argus in Brighton reports that Paddy Power have opened a book on a Crawley teenager. Seventeen-year-old Frank Milham has been tapped as a contender for the TARDIS on the strength of his turn as the Artful Dodger in a production of Oliver.

Frank has as much chance of becoming The Doctor as Michelle Gomez and Danny Dyer at 33/1 according to the bookies.
