Late Night/Early Morning Open Thread (with A Call-of-Arms to All STEM Members): Just Close All the Doors, and Shut All the WindowsChick Counterfly2/18/17 1:30am20EditPromoteShare to KinjaGo to permalinkBecause I’m not locking the door on my way out tonight. Just lock the place up when you leave. This last month has proven that science, that mathematics, is more important than anything else now when speaking and communicating with others. The last three weeks have been a battle between understanding and using the science of mathematics versus “gut” “beliefs” in order to actually understand reality. If things continue in this manner, then we all have a responsibility to use basic math and science to explain how civics and reality actually work. Advertisement We have never been alive to witness a time and situation in which the ability to use the most basic of STEM knowledge can save a society by simply talking to the people around us in a manner that STEM knowledge can be used, not to talk down to anyone, but rather to do our best as “teachers” to inform the people we know and meet. For some of us, it may feel like dumbing it down, but to those who need some basic things explained to them in a polite and calm manner so that they can begin to understand, on their own terms, and on their own levels of understanding, we need to elucidate fact from fiction for them. Helping people who simply believe, who buy into, 45's nonsensical lies and disinformation campaign, to actually understand, to learn and know, just enough STEM to see that what 45 is saying as “TRUTH” or as “alternative facts” are in reality factually and mathematically untrue and false. This is a problem for the easily blinded and manipulated parts of many of our nation’s populace. Advertisement And we all can help them.I will use one example here: In the three weeks that 45 has been in office, because he has traveled to NYC and his resort in FL, the federal treasury has accrued at least a $10 million bill that comes straight from the federal treasury, and we, every single taxpayer, are footing the bill for his travels. (Source: Washington Post.)NYC is paying $500,000 per day currently thus far. The DoD and SS are being forced to look at paying rent in 45's NY Tower @ $1.5 million per year, and that’s a rough estimate. If 45 continues in this manner, the cost calculations bloom to hundreds of millions of dollars over a 4 year term. Sponsored One more example: The SS and US Embassy staffers this month paid nearly $100,000 in hotel-room bills just while covering Eric T’s trip to promote a Trump-brand condo tower in Uruguay. It wasn’t for US govt interests; it was purely for Trump-brand profit interests. In comparison to these numbers, our last Commander-in Chief, 44, had the sum total of travel and living expenses coming in at less than $97 million over 8 years. Advertisement This is, by the logic of STEM, by using basic mathematics, utterly insane. It’s bollocks madness. So, I ask for an intellectual call-to-arms where we STEM people talk to other people (who have a much looser grasp on how this kind of math works) to please explain how outrageously abnormal this all is.Please, as I am doing, do what you feel is right in order to explain that we have a man (#45) acting like a King with Absolute Power, spending disgusting amounts of taxpayer money to live a decadent life, all while he is supposed to be doing the most important job in this country (and possibly the World), supposedly doing it purely for country, and not for his own personal business and family business interests. Have any random or pervasive thoughts that need a little old-fashioned typing out onto the ODeck for incisive discussion to vent and perhaps achieve a bit more elucidation? Advertisement A for me: I’m personally continuing a very difficult regimen of intensive medical treatment. I hope in the next few months that I may begin to finally start to improve and not be so terribly bedridden and immobile. I hope this next course starts to put me on an upward trajectory. Hey: I want to live, after all. Pretty simple really._____________________It’s the open thread, with a STEM twist intro. What’s going on with you?
