He suffered from a short, yet life ending bout with cancer and died earlier today.

Born Ian Fraser Kilmister, he was a roadie for Jimmy Hendrix when Lemmy made the decision to form a band. First as a part of Hawkwind, he left the band to form Motorhead. Never one to bullshit about his talent and ability, he knew the music would not be for the masses. The gravely vocal delivery made sure of that.

Motorhead created speed metal. And the rest is history.

Thought ften described as a godfather of metal and the influence more heard and felt by heavy metal and all its sub-genres, interestingly Lemmy considered Motohead’s music to be punk rock. No matter. The music kicked major fucking ass!

With songs like Killed By Death, Damage Case, (We Are) The Road Crew and countless others, the style was singular and no one dared to rip them off. Or check out albums (if there are still people out there who dare to listen to more than one song from any one artist), Orgasmatron, Motorhead, 1916, and more recently The World IS Yours. He made no excuse for the sound he created and never strayed too far from.

He never stopped drinking and smoking knowing full well it would cost him dearly one day.
