Known as one of bands labelled The Big 4 of thrash metal, Slayer will bring its particular kind of storytelling to comics with a three issue mini series based on two songs from their latest album Repentless.

With its record label Nuclear Records, the band has teamed up with Dark Horse comics to publish Slayer: Repentless, Vol. 1. The plot is based on revenge themed music videos based on two songs (“Repentless” and “You Against You”) from the same album which were both directed by BJ McDonnell.

The comics are written by Jon Schnepp, a former Metalocalypse director and with artwork by Guiu Vilanova (Twilight Zone, Conan the Avenger).

While the story is all Slayer, guitarist-songwriter, Kerry King will be hands off the project and only there to approve concepts for the comic.

Slayer has long been connected to devil-worship since the band’s early days, and while songs like Haunting The Chapel and Hell Awaits are about the biblical concept of damnation and evil, other songs detail a real world view of violence and atrocity. Angel Of Death and Dead Skin Mask reflect the true crimes against humanity.

Slayer: Repentless, Vol. 1 will be released later this year.
