Another look at the geeks of heavy metal.

This will include Dio's time as frontman for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Black Sabbath in addition to his solo band.

A lot of his songs just have a general swords & sorcery fantasy imagery to them

The Rainbow years
Man on the Silver Mountain is probably one of the better known ones

Kill the King, supposedly written about chess

Taking over Black Sabbath, Dio brought more of a fantasy feel particularly on the Heaven and Hell album

Neon Knights

Lady Evil

From his solo band, the music video for the song Holy Diver actually has him walking through a dungeon slaying creatures, showing his fantasy geekiness in all its glory.

He plays a sorcerer in the video for Rock and Roll Children

He also conjures up that imagery in Sacred Heart and Dream Evil

The Last In Line is supposed to be about The Flying Dutchman

Next week: Warlock
