Researchers observing marmosets in Brazil witnessed a male comforting his companion as she lay dying after falling and hitting her head. This is the first recording of mourning behavior in monkeys. From the article:

The male left behind two babies he had been caring for in the tree, descended to his partner, and embraced her.

He sat alongside her, trying to interact with her, for the next hour and 48 minutes, said Dr Bezerra.

Side note: I know researchers aren't supposed to interfere. But man, it must be tough to see an animal suffer so and not do anything about it.
