2016 continues to 2016 us today with the death of veteran British actor Peter Vaughan, known most recently for the role of Maester Aemon in Game of Thrones (a role he only retired from this year), but he has been a frequent face in genre film and television for many decades.

He was on Terry Gilliam’s rosta of actors in the 1980's appearing first as a giant in Time Bandits and then as the outwardly friendly but deeply sinister Mr Helpman in Brazil.

In 1973 he also had a lead role in one of the best remembered of the BBC’s Ghost Stories for Christmas strand an adaptation of M.R James’ A Warning To The Curious, which is available on Youtube and I’ll link to below.

Goodnight Peter.
