Guitarist Greg Lake has passed away after “a long and stubborn battle with cancer.” He was 69.

A school-friend of Robert Fripp, Lake was part of the original King Crimson line up, writing lyrics for their debut In The Court of The Crimson King. He continued to work with Fripp on Crimson projects after establishing “supergroup” Emerson, Lake & Palmer with the keyboard player from The Nice.

He achieved solo success with I Believe in Father Christmas, a protest against the commercialisation of the Festive Season that quickly became part of the holiday landscape.
