Science vs Cinema: The Martianoldwomanyellsatclods10/12/15 6:32pmFiled to: The MartianSciencing the shit out of Mars215EditPromoteShare to KinjaGo to permalinkHave we seen this? I checked, but I haven’t found it on O-Deck; my apologies if it’s already been posted. Advertisement AHOY; HERE BE (MILD) SPOILERS!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!***** Advertisement Anyway, a scientist (astrophysicist Andy Howell) interviews NASA scientists about the scientific accuracy of The Martian. What I found particularly endearing is how stoked the NASA people are about the attempts to make the movie as accurate as possible. The flaws, and they are there and are fairly major, are acknowledged, but also acknowledged is that the film makers were aware of them, but were constrained by current filming technology (gravity), or the the necessity of having something that initiate the action (the dust storm).
