So I’ve already gone through what I thought were the best returning comics of 2016. Now it’s time for the best comics that started in 2016. Yes, this does mean that some of these comics only have two or three issues out, but if so, it just means those two or three issues are really goddamn good.
Over the past year, I’ve managed to find and read a lot of comics by Matt Kindt, writer and artist. They tend to use a very simplified cartoonish style (similar to Jeff Lemire, in fact), but also use the space of the page and the use of colors and timing for some fascinating stories. Just announced on Comic Book Resources, a brand new Legend of Korra comic book written by Michael Dante DiMartino, one of the co-creators of the show and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Apparently Acme Comics teamed up with Dark Horse and artist Joe Quinones for a special varient of Firefly: Leaves on the Wind #1. Only a thousand of these puppies were made, but you can still score one on their website.
The crew returns with Zack Whedon on script duty January 29th!
