In response to Charles Pulliam-Moore’s post “It Looks Like The Wrong Person Died in Marvel’s Secret Empire” article, I wrote a partial version of this initially as a response, but it grew into a full article in its own right. I have cleaned it up, rewritten it, and added content. (Spoilers for Secret Empire #7.)
Everyone is arguing the best way to bring in Spider-Man to the MCU. Whether they should bring Andrew Garfield and the current movies and establish them in the MCU, or whether they should reboot the character all together (again). However, there is a third option: Killing off Peter Parker all together.
Parker! I want reasons! Reasons why that new deal Marvel/Sony did is good! And don't tell me it's because now Spider-Man can appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I don't care about Spider-Man! He's a menace! He's a threat! He's a buffoon! Tell me some other reasons!
So Spider-Man has gone through a lot of trouble lately: he switched bodies with Doctor Octopus and then died, then he when he returned back to life (long story) he was almost immediately embroiled in a multiversal "Great Hunt." And soon, Secret Wars will arrive and the Marvel universe itself will cease to exist.
