So last week, Marvel revealed that Jean Grey would lead a brand new team of X-Men in a book called X-Men Red. Despite my insistence that the team be entirely made up of Jean Grey, Teen Jean, Rachel Summers, Hope Summers, and Madelyn Pryor, Marvel apparently decided to do something different and released the team lineup today:

Now, I know you probably don’t recognize many people (aside from Wolverine and Nightcrawler) in that image, because neither did I. So I looked the team and here they are in clockwise order:

Gentle (a Wakandan mutant with super strength), Namor the Sub-Mariner (not wearing his usual speedo), Nightcrawler, a new mutant called Trinary, Jean Grey, the All-New Wolverine (Laura Kinney), and Gabby (Laura’s adorably awesome clone sister).

Some of these team members make perfect sense, like Laura and Gabby (since Tom Taylor is currently writing All-New Wolverine, which is an awesome book that you should be reading), but others seem like strange choices. Currently, Nightcrawler is a member of X-Men Gold, but he can probably be on two times just fine (what with being a teleporter). Namor isn’t really a team player, however (despite being a member of the Defenders and the Illuminati) and tends to go back and forth between being an anti-hero and straight up villain. Gentle hasn’t been seen in a long time and Trinary is a brand-new character.

Still, it’s an intriguing lineup. And both Tom Taylor and Mahmud Asrar are great, so I can’t wait to see the first issue.
