It’s been a week since Daredevil Season 2 was released and now that people have (presumably) had time to watch it, I thought that I would share my theory for a potential scenario for how the Defenders (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and maybe Punisher) will come together in that future series. This theory revolves around some new information that came up in Daredevil season 2 so beware, there will be spoilers after the break.

So at the end of Daredevil season 2 Foggy Nelson is offered a senior partnership position at Jeri Hogarth’s law firm. It’s this firm Hogarth, Chao, Benowitz, and Nelson that I believe will be key to the formation of the Defenders later on. Because you see, at the moment three of the four (five?) Defenders have some connections to the firm.

Daredevil’s connection is his fairly strained relationship with Foggy Nelson which will probably get dealt with at some point in the future. They’ll probably face off in court at some point or Matt will join the firm at some point. Danny Rand/Iron Fist on the other hand will be a client of the firm in his own series, possibly with Foggy as the one who represents him directly. Finally Jessica Jones works for the firm as private investigator and would probably cross paths with Matt or Danny at some point during a case. At the moment Luke Cage doesn’t have any direct connections with the firm aside from his very strained relationship with Jessica (and as such I’m not sure the connection would be made that way) but that may change during his solo series where he may suddenly need representation from a law firm.

Now, I’m including Punisher in this theory because while he hasn’t been announced as being in the Defenders, he is getting his own series and so may get added to the Defenders roster as well. That being said Punisher’s potential inclusion does kind of screw up the theory as a publicly known mass murderer I can’t think of anyways he would be connected to the firm aside from being represented by them again (and I hope that they wouldn’t do that) so I guess we would have to see about him. Because like I said, I’m not even sure he would be a part of the series.

Now I’m sure there could be other ways you could bring the Defenders together. You could maybe make a case for Claire Temple being the catalyst for the group coming together but she shows up so damn infrequently that I don’t think that would really work all that well, though I suspect that she would still be supporting character in the series regardless. Also even if my theory is correct I suspect that the firm connection wouldn’t be the biggest connector that would draw the group together, that would probably go to who ever the seasons main villain is (Kingpin or whoever). But the firm would still seems to be the best way to connect the four/five heroes secret identities together and that seems like an important step in making the group work.

So what do you all think? Is there any potential to my theory?
