So I may have mentioned that I art sometimes. Primarily, though, I work in a strict monochrome—pencil or pen. I'm scared of colours. Now, I know the physics of colours, I've done the basic art theory and to some degree get the colour wheel, but I still can't work out what colours to use on caucasian skin shadow in *this* picture versus *that* one, say.

Instead of diligently avoiding expressing myself in colour, I figured I'd ask you knowledgeable Niners for links to some sort of a hands on (I need to do to learn) colour theory primer, something as about the "how" as it is about the why (which I get to a dry, unartistic degree).

The tools that I have to hand are quite a few sets of coloured pencils, plus a number of graphics applications that I suck at using.

Any resource suggestions?
