Here’s one we haven’t covered before. What’s the procedure for reporting sick days where you work? Do you even have to keep track of them? Does someone do that for you?
I cancelled classes on Tuesday as well as my office hours. So I thought it would be a good idea to check with the administrative assistant in the department to see what I needed to do. And was met with a bit of a shrug since I’m not full time faculty and the rules for them don’t apply the same way to me. Then the department chair walked in and she asked him. Another shrug. Once, some time ago, payroll decided to get with it and asked for leave reports from the adjuncts for the full previous year. All at once. And hoped that everybody remembered exactly what they had done and when. But that hasn’t happened again since. So nobody knows what the procedure is when I call in sick. I think I’ll make a google doc that lists when I cancelled class just in case. I’m not even really sure how many classes I cancel in a semester without it becoming an issue.
At my old school you could cancel class an equal number of hours as the semester credit hours that it was worth. The assistant to the dean of faculty(? - I never really knew what her position was) would stick a form in your mailbox whenever you cancelled, you signed it, she sent it to payroll, problem solved.
