While I was trying to find info on an obscure game console called the Halcyon, I came across these vintage episodes of The Computer Chronicles — produced by KCSM from 1983 to 2002 in Mountain View, CA, now the home of the Googleplex. These shows are a real treasury of weird, kludgey old technologies that were almost but not quite there — or, in the case of the Halcyon, not at all.

Seems like there’s a corollary here to Gibson’s comment about the future already being here but not evenly distributed — the future was already here in the ‘90s, it was just scattered all over the place (not to mention slow as hell and ugly as sin).
