Stuck in the airport edition. Did you guys know that 2:30 PM is not the same as 12:30 PM? Which means that if you think your flight is at 12:30 PM, you end up at the airport way earlier than expected and therefore have plenty of time to kill? I guess I should be glad I didn't mix these times up the wrong way around.
This little guy was found on a porch in Spokane, WA. He was only three weeks old at the time and was suffering from malnourishment and dehydration. Wildlife officials searched the area for his mother but were unable to find her, and this cub needed help. Due to his age, he will not be able to be rehabilitated and released back into the wild, so his new home is Zoo America in Pennsylvania.
Mountain Lion cubs typically stay with their mothers until they are about two years old, during which time they learn all of the skills they need to survive on their own. Without that crucial period of maternal education, this cub would never be able to live as a wild Mountain Lion.
I've written about Mountain Lions (also called Cougars, Catamounts, Pumas and Panthers) in my Caturday series.
This litter of Malayan Tiger cubs was born at the Tulsa Zoo on August 8. Three of the cubs are thriving and bonding with their mother, but unfortunately the fourth cub passed away shortly after being born.
The Malayan Tiger is a subspecies that can only be found on the Malay Peninsula in Asia, and is considered to be endangered by the IUCN. There are only about 500 Malayan Tigers left in the wild, and they are under constant threat from habitat destruction and poaching.
