A teaser for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) appeared today. It was called “See You Soon” and it didn’t so much have any actual scenes from the movie, but rather images of the characters. (Probably test screenings, but filmed in a cinematic way.) But it’s also our first look at these characters in the DCEU and sometimes even in live-action, so let’s take a closer look, shall we?

The first image we get is, of course, of Harley Quinn or, rather, her legs as she walks away from the camera.

Then we get this image of what I assume is the Huntress and her iconic crossbow.

Someone drinking alcohol directly from the bottle in front of a bright light. (What is this, a JJ Abrams film? I kid.) I assume this is Renee Montoya, since she is an alcoholic in the comics.

Someone wearing a cast that appears to have been decorated by Harley Quinn. Later on, we will see that the person with the cast is actually Cassandra Cain.

And now back to Harley Quinn and her baseball bat.

After this, we get a series of very quick shots of the characters, but this time they are entirely in frame, which is a bonus.

I assume this person is Black Canary and they are going with the era where she was a punk rocker in a band called, appropriately, Black Canary.

And here is the Huntress, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Her outfit looks a bit more conservative than what she usually wears in the comics, which is good. And she’s holding both a crossbow and a gun.

And here’s Renee Montoya, played by Rosie Perez. She appears to be holding a police baton, which is probably because she’s a police officer.

And here’s Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor wearing a nice pair of sunglasses.

And here’s another shot of the Huntress, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, only now 1) she’s about to shoot us with that crossbow and 2) she’s wearing a belly shirt, which lines up pretty much exactly with what her character in the comics wore.

This appears to be the movie’s version of Mister Zsasz, played by Chris Messina. As a reminder, in the comics, Zsasz is a serial killer who carves lines into his body for each of his victims. It appears this might be not the case in this movie, so he might just be one of Black Mask’s underlings.

And here is another shot of Black Canary, played by Jurnee Smollet-Bell. She definitely looks different from previous versions of the character and instead appears to be going for a glam rock-type look.

Another shot of Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor, this time bathed in red light to make him look creepier.

And here we have Cassandra Cain, played by Ella Jay Basco. She has one arm in a cast. Presumably, this is due to Black Mask or his flunkies wanting to capture or kill her, which is what leads to the Birds of Prey forming to protect her (even if the comics-version of Cassandra Cain would definitely protect herself).

And another look at Mister Zsasz, played by Chris Messina. He’s trying to do the Kubrik Stare, but I don’t think it’s working.

And, finally, another shot of Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie.

And there we are.
