So far in the last month or so, I've only read a couple of novels. Granted, one of them was really big —Haruki Murakami's 1Q84, which clocks in at around 1200 pages in paperback— but I haven't read a whole lot of fiction lately.

Now, it's not that I haven't been buying novels, and it's not like I haven't had the time, and it's not like I haven't been wanting to read fiction. I just haven't been able to get into much of anything lately. I don't know if this is some sort of incipient mid-life crisis thing, like I should be reading more classics of literature as opposed to some piece of entertainment, or if maybe I'm just bored or finicky or whatever. Mood, as a great warrior once observed, is a thing for cattle and loveplay.

So what do you guys think? Have you ever gone through a period of reading doldrums where nothing got your attention?
