Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks
Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks

Hello ODeckers! I have a question about the etiquette of this place. Last night, I promoted my most recent blog post here, and got loads of visits and a lot of good feedback. I am very tempted to repeat this—maybe even make it a regular thing (twice- or once-weekly).

However, in all my months of lurking, I don't remember a single person doing anything like this—posting things to get people to read their blog. So I would like to know if it would be frowned upon if I did it. I would understand completely if it would—I can imagine there being a risk of everyone else doing it, and then ODeck is flooded with everyone's blog stuff, and then it's not ODeck anymore, just advertise-your-blog-here.io9.com.

I'm assuming that, if it were decided that I'm not allowed to post my blog stuff regularly, I could do it in moderation—e.g. once monthly.

I would also like to make it clear that, in case anyone was thinking so, I did not ask to be able to post here just so I could advertise my blog—I have a post-it note on my laptop with a list of sf topics I'd like to write about here, but which I haven't got round to yet.

Anyway, basically, I really like it here, and I don't want to ruin it, either for myself or for others, so if it is decided that I should not use ODeck to get people to read my blog, that's completely 100% fine!

UPDATE: So far, it seems that people would be cool with me posting stuff here, also because the content fits with the stuff that tends to appear on io9, as long as I do it in moderation. So I'm thinking of making it a once-weekly thing, on Thursdays, and call it something like "ArchaeoThursdays".
