Illustration for article titled Baby Pandas Born at the National Zoo

UPDATE: Now with twice as many panda cubs! About five hours after giving birth to the first cub, a second cub was born at 10:07 last night. Double the panda, double the fun! (Hat tip to facw for letting me know in the comments.) Mei Xiang gave birth to her third living cub today at today Washington, DC’s National Zoo (that’s her previous cub, Bao Bao, in the top picture). Zookeepers weren’t even sure she was pregnant until the last couple weeks because she was uncooperative in efforts to perform an ultrasound exam. If you want to check out mother and child on the zoo’s webcam you’ll probably want to wait a few days as the initial news has drawn so much traffic that the site has crashed.
