Tonight we went to Alamo Drafthouse to see this new Ridley Scott film, Alien. It is a a sequel to his 2012 film Prometheus but more in a loose sense. Spoilers below.

I say it is a sequel but there are a lot of differences with only some reoccurring plot elements like the Engineer ship, and the design of the alien has some familiar elements. But they went with a completely new cast! I guess we will have to wait for the next movie to see the adventures of Elizabeth Shaw.

Prometheus had super advanced looking technology but in Alien it seems the Space Truckers have 70s level technology in their spaceship. I mean there are some more advanced things like Ash the robot and Mother the computer who was probably based on a Siri you can't just speak your questions to. But Alien had much more realistic looking setting and looked much better with its practical effects, except a kind of silly scene with the alien outside the ship at the end.

Alien had a lot less body horror than Prometheus and less monsters but was much scarier! Good job on Ridley Scott on improving that. Less spectacle and more atmosphere.

I like this Ripley lady. I hope she gets found and we see more of her in the next movie! Pretty sure Jonesy was working with the alien all along though.

Note: I have been a big fan of Alien franchise for most my life and it was really great to finally see the original on the big screen.
