Catch The Alien Signal On This Week’s Face Off

Nelson’s fun and friendly alien

On this week’s Face Off the five remaining contestants must create aliens inspired by actual recordings from space. Who will catch the rocket to the finale and who will be eating space dust? Results ahead (and they weren’t quite what I expected).

McKenzie Westmore meets the contestants at the lab to introduce the spotlight challenge. Each contestant will choose a recording of space noise and use that to create a fun, friendly alien creature. There are only three spots in the finale so it will be a double elimination this week.

Legendary make-up artist Rick Baker is the guest judge this week.

If you asked me before this episode who was most likely to be eliminated I would have said Kierstin. But this week she not only isn’t eliminated, she wins the challenge and is the first selected for the finale. Her creature is a good piece of work though not necessarily a good fit for this specific challenge (which even Kierstin acknowledges). I suspect not everyone agrees with the judges’ decision here.

Andrew has a clear concept for his alien rocker that he is able to bring to life. The judges think it’s a little on the plain side but it’s plenty good enough to get him the second spot in the finale.

KC chooses to go big with lots of prosthetics and body paint. The results are far from flawless and I wasn’t sure she would make the cut. But she gets the third spot in the finale.

That means Faina and Nelson don’t make the cut and are eliminated. Both did good work this week and the judges noted that Nelson’s creature best displayed the “fun and friendly” aspect of the challenge. Again I suspect not everyone agrees with the judges’ decision.

And there you have it. Next week is part one of the finale. I correctly guessed that Andrew and KC would make it but I was way off about Kierstin. (This is why I don’t have a side gig as a fortune teller.) I suppose any of the three finalists could win the season but I still don’t think it will be Kierstin.
