Chef's Knife to Santoku

Holiday cooking has shown me that my cutlery is inadequate and it may be time to actually buy a nice knife and I can't decide which kind to buy.

I currently have a chef's knife but sometimes it fels unwieldy chopping up veggies.

I hardly ever cut meat usually just fruit and veggies.

How many have made the switch and is it worth it?
