Quick episode summary: Kiera and Brad try to deal with the Time Marines. Alec makes his first attempt at getting his company back from Kellog.
Where we left off last season:
Sonya followed Kagame’s lead (on a lesser scale), by blowing herself up in a VPD interrogation room with Dillon. Dillon survived, but was badly injured. Chen freed The Traveler from the Freelancer vault and killed Katherine. Kiera teamed up with Carlos, Jason, Time Traveling Alec, Emily and the remains of Liber8 to take down Piron Alec. Emily was arrested for attempting to kill Piron Alec at the Halo launch. Piron Alec was killed in a roof top struggle and Time Traveling Alec took his place, only to discover that Kellog had pulled a fast one and was now running Piron (and in possession of the Frankenstein time travel sphere). Brad and Kiera decided to set off his 2039 beacon to see if they had prevented his future. They got their answer in the arrival of six heavily armored Time Marines.
Alec quickly gets Emily out of jail by dropping all the charges his other self made against her. The young couple are happily reunited.
Meanwhile, we pick up right where the season three finale ended with the arrival of the Time Marines. Brad tells Kiera to run, which they do with the Time Marines in pursuit. Brad attempts to slow them down, which doesn’t really work. One of the Time Marines follows Kiera into an industrial laundry, where she quickly strips down to her supersuit and goes invisible. However, it doesn’t take long for Kiera to be found and one shot from a Time Marine weapon makes her reappear. Kiera is eventually blasted through the back of a truck and knocked out.
Kiera wakes up in a very white hospital and is told by a nurse that she’s been in a coma since the execution and the date is now September 25th, 2080!?! The nurse goes on to add that Kiera’s CMR enters a realistic simulation program when brain trauma has been detected. OMG, is Continuum pulling a Life On Mars scenario? Kiera is finally reunited with her son, Sam, but the joyous reunion doesn’t last long. Quickly the illusion falls apart and Kiera awakens to Carlos and Alec leaning over her in the truck.
The Time Marines set up in an under-construction office building as Brad chats with their leader, Marcellus (the guy who sent Brad back from 2039). Brad is immediately questioned as to why he was hanging out with Kiera, who is apparently on their target list. We don’t get to hear his answer, but it was good enough that they allowed him to stick around.
Alec takes Kiera back to his nifty new apartment (courteous of Piron Alec). Kiera states that she’s accomplished her mission to stop Liber8 and that the simulation she experienced has renewed her desire to return home. She needs Alec’s help. The next morning, Kiera discovers that Alec has decided to take revenge on Kellog. Luckily, Alec’s revenge plan will also allow him to gain access to the technology information required to get Kiera home.
Chen drops by Kellog’s office to offer The Traveler’s help in guiding Kellog to the future he wants. Surprisingly, Kellog says he wants to think it over. Chen ends with the following warning:
Carlos, who’s been filling in for Dillon, lies to Nora about Kiera’s involvement with Liber8 (he says she’s gone undercover to infiltrate them). To Carlos’s surprise, Nora informs him that Dillon is not planning to return to the VPD.
Alec drops by a cafe where Julian apparently hangs out with his political activists buddies. Julian lays out his new philosophy for making change in the world. Alec asks for his help in taking down Piron.
Lucas meets with Garza to fill her in on what’s going on with Alec, the Time Marines and Kiera... apparently Alec has a mole in his group.
The unlikely team-up of Alec, Emily, Jason, Lucas and Julian work to take out the Piron servers as Kiera and Carlos crash Kellog’s Halo party.
Kellog makes excuses for why he can’t relinquish control of Piron to the ‘good’ Alec, then claims no knowledge of the Time Marines (despite being told of them by Chen). Just as Carlos and Kiera start to leave, Alec’s group locks down the Piron servers. Kellog is not pleased.
Kellog immediately phones Alec and orders him to fix the hack or he’ll escalate the war between them. Alec refuses. Game on.
Alec reconnects Kiera’s CMR, then helps her track down Brad and the Time Marines. As soon as Kiera gets near the building, she runs into Garza, who informs her that the Time Marines aren’t just Kiera’s problem. Kiera manages to negotiate a 10-minute head start, then goes invisible as soon as she gets in the building... abandoning yet another set of clothes.
Zorin and Weaver question Marcellus over Brad’s involvement in their plan. Marcellus insists that Brad helping them find their hide out and obtaining supplies and communications means he has proved himself.
As Kiera looks around the Time Marine hide out, Alec asks her to grab a small piece of tech. Doing so draws the attention of Vasquez, who quickly fires on Kiera, destroying her invisibility. Kiera is pursued through the building, then oddly decides to head up the stairs and ends up cornered on the roof, where Zorin knocks her out.
Kiera awakens to find she is still on the roof, but is now surrounded by Time Marines and Brad. She makes up a story about Brad being a suspect in a crime, then states that they shouldn’t trust Kellog. Despite Brad’s arguments that she could be useful, Marcellus shoves Kiera off the roof. Marcellus watches Brad’s face and I’m pretty sure Brad’s horrified expression added to any doubts Marcellus already had about him.
While falling, Kiera manages to activate her force field, allowing her to survive with minor injuries. Garza comes to her rescue with bullets and a getaway car.
On her way back from grocery shopping, Emily gets attacked by two guys. She makes a valiant effort to get away, which includes rolling under a moving vehicle, but ultimately fails and is abducted. Score one for Kellog.
Kiera and Carlos have a quiet chat in his office, where she admits to wanting to see Sam again. Despite not wanting her to leave, Carlos makes a toast to ‘going home’ and they both have a sip from his flask.
Garza meets with Chen on a dark street, where he suggests that Liber8 needs to move up any plans they have to kill Kellog. Garza looks quite uncomfortable when she spots The Traveler waiting for Chen. It seems Chen is playing both sides. What exactly are he and his mysterious friend up to?
Back at Piron, Kellog receives a package containing a short note of instructions and a small silver disk. Kellog activates the disk and suddenly the Elder Kellog from 2039 appears as a full size hologram and says ‘Hiya pal’. Just what we need... another Kellog.
