The Face Off contestants are given a new challenge that may not be as daunting as last week’s but still poses difficulties for some of them. In this week’s sea themed challenge who swims to safety and who sinks to Davy Jones’ Locker? Spoilers ahead.

Like last week, the contestants are paired off, though in different combinations. The challenge is to create a siren from Greek mythology based on a selected sea creature. It’s the kind of straightforward challenge you would expect early in the season. McKenzie emphasises right away that beauty is a critical aspect.

The four contestants who were Bottom Looks last week - Libby, Stevie, Kevon and Omar - have the chance to redeem themselves. Two of them do, two don’t.

Stevie is safe this week with her Blue-Ringed Octopus Siren.

Kevon and his partner Meg listen to the advice Michael Westmore gives them and rework their Textile Cone Snail design. This pays off big since they make Top Looks along with Brittany and Nora’s Flabellina Nudibranch.

As I expected it’s a double elimination this week since no one was sent packing last week. I was expecting Libby and Omar to be sent home since they both made Bottom Looks again this week. Instead Omar and his partner Sidney were eliminated for their Portuguese Man o’ War that Glenn called a “Cabbage Patch fish.” Libby and her partner Missy survived for another week.

  • Two weeks in I don’t expect anyone to really stand out yet but some like Nora (one of the graduates from Tom Savini’s Special Makeup Effects Program this season) look solid so far.
  • On the other end of the spectrum I don’t think Libby will last much longer.

You can see galleries of this week’s designs, the contestants’ previous work and previous seasons here.
