Dance of the Modern Prometheus

It seems Miller and Cumberbatch didn’t diminish the appetite for stage versions of Mary Shelley’s classic gothic novel, Frankenstein. Earlier this year, The Royal Ballet (in association with San Francisco Ballet) raised the curtain on a new version of the modern Prometheus.

BBC4 will be visiting the Royal Opera House in London on Sunday (20:00) for a Halloween broadcast of this dance version of the classic tale. The cast includes Federico Bonelli who dances the role of Doctor Frankenstein, with Laura Morera as his fiancee Elizabeth.

Steven McRae stars as the Creature in this spectacle helmed by the Royal Ballet’s Artist in Residence, choreographer Liam Scarlett. He describes Frankenstein as a love story.

Music is by New York composer by Lowell Liebermann who scored the opera The Picture of Dorian Grey.

The BBC4 broadcast will be presented from the Royal Opera House by Darcey Bussell and Ore Oduba. There have been some previous simulcasts, so there maybe further opportunities to view if you are not in the UK.
