So if I have things right, this post will pop up ten minutes before those of us in the UK find out what that elephant was doing on the frozen Thames.
Before that BBC1 viewers are treated to Jimmy Osmond, Kym Mazelle, Jedward, Nancy Lam, Sam Simmons, Ossie Ardikes and Guillem Balague dukeing it out on quiz show Pointless Celebrities. Of course, host Alexander Armstrong was the voice of Sarah Jane Smith’s super computer (when he wasn’t piloting Lancaster bombers though the time vortex). Has co-host Richard Osman ever been on Doctor Who?
The third episode of the current Doctor Who series Thin Ice was scripted by Australian writer Sarah Dollard who previously engineered the faux death of Clara Oswald. Her other credits include Neighbours, Merlin, Being Human, The Game and Primeval. The official synopsis is:
London, 1814. The entire city has turned out for the biggest Frost Fair in decades. But beneath the frozen Thames, revellers are disappearing, snatched through the ice and pulled into the depths where a terrifying monster lurks. Will the Doctor and Bill stop the slaughter before they too are dragged into the icy waters?
Coincidentally, the title Thin Ice was also used for a Big Finish drama by Marc Platt which was one of those unmade Season 27 episodes.
