Episode VIII to Feature 1970s Mall Planet

Star Wars Episode VIII begins filming in Dubrovnik, Croatia next week, and set decorators have been working around the clock redressing streets and shops to resemble an otherworldly metropolis. (It’s a situation the inhabitants are probably used to, since the city also doubles for King’s Landing on Game of Thrones.) It’s not entirely clear if this is a new planet or one we’ve seen before, but like the font used in The Force Awakens ads, the aesthetic is very much in keeping with the franchise’s 1970s origins. Is this the Coruscanti equivalent of Casual Corner or Bag N’Baggage? And will Benicio Del Toro play the sinister general manager of the local Orange Julius? Only time will tell.
