I don’t normally play video games, much less listen to their soundtracks, but I read this article from Kotaku and got sucked into the soundtrack of Far Cry 5, which is made up of what I can only describe as “Christian cult apocalyptic rockabilly.”

The songs are all written and composed by Dan Romer, who also scored Beasts of the Southern Wild, Beasts of No Nation, and other movies that don’t have the word “beasts” in them.

The best part, however, is that there are actually three versions of each song: the regular “Christian rock” version; a version done by the Hope County Choir (which is somehow even more apocalyptic and cult-y); and an ambient remix (which is just trippy).

I’ve read up on Far Cry 5 and it’s definitely the type of game I would like to play, despite the fact that I have no game system. Until I do, however, I shall just have to content myself with listening to its soundtrack.
