Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks

Friendly Notice: Prepaid Moto G for $20 from Best Buy! (Updated!x4)

I woke up to this surprise this morning, Best Buy has the Verizon Wireless Prepaid Motorola Moto G available for only $19.99!

Seriously, folks, I’m not joking. That’s the price of the phone right now.

I just ordered one myself, happened to have $20 in Best Buy rewards in my account, also picked up a copy of The Avengers on Blu-Ray since I’d been meaning to add it to my Blu-Ray collection. The fact that I had a $10 gift card from Best Buy made adding it to my cart that much easier. I paid $7.98 for a phone and a movie!

I should add that the phone is the 8 GB non-LTE variant of the Moto G.

EDIT. So after having a friend who bought it check he confirmed that the phone DOES NOT have a microSD card slot.

EDIT 2. I just picked up the phone I purchased this morning and there is 4.98 GB of free space available for users to install apps or throw some tunes and podcasts and videos or whatever on it. That’s out of the box free space. So it’s not as bad as it could be, it’s just not as great as it could be thanks to the lack of the microSD card slot.

EDIT 3. For anyone wanting to use this purely as a portable media player, you can also look into purchasing the following from Amazon. A 2-in-1 microSD card reader with OTG support. It’ll set you back an additional $7.99 plus shipping and handling and tax. (Basically an adapter for a microSD card that plugs into the phone’s microUSB port and that your phone will read perfectly fine. As Motorola phones have built in support for USB OTG aka On-The-Go storage. Or put another way, with the appropriate cable or adapter they can read USB flash drives and hard drives and microSD cards. )

EDIT 4. Let the record show that the phone has a built in FM radio, although Airplane Mode must be turned off to use it and you need to have headphones plugged in (not sure if Bluetooth will work for this) to act as the antenna and let it scan for stations. Not gonna lie, I cracked up horribly at my desk when it finished scanning the local stations. It didn’t find them all, but the last one it found it was an absolutely ridiculous song and moment to tune into. It was this song and it tuned in right at the chorus.

(Also apologies for all the edits and updates, just trying to be thorough here with all the info about this phone. I mean for $20 it’s not bad for what it can do as is, but if you mean to use it as a phone then yeah I’d have to say pass.)

Again, just to clarify, this is a Verizon Wireless Prepaid phone. You won’t be able to buy it and use it on Sprint or AT&T or T-Mobile. Just Verizon’s prepaid service.

And if your intention is to use this as a media player or gaming device then please note the following. PSA: You need to get past the activation screen before you can do anything with it as a WiFi only device. The trick is to pull down the notification panel enough to get the recents button to activate. Then you simply swipe away the activation recent and voila!

Order this as soon as possible if you’re inclined to do so at all. This deal won’t last long and I can guarantee they’ll likely sell out before the day is done.
