Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks

From A to Z, in the 80s Alphabet (Part 10) - "J"

After the relative wasteland that was “I”, today’s letter should be much easier. I actually had to contain myself to just two bands (not counting the bonus quote).

(For anyone having problems coming up with something, here’s another good memory jogger.)

(Hot dang, I actually made it to ten with these!)

J is for Joe Jackson

“Is She Really Going Out With Him?” is probably better-known, but I would put “Steppin’ Out” in my Top 20 80s songs of all time — I love this song so damn much! I remember some critics initially dismissed him as just an Elvis (the bespectacled one) sound-alike, but he gained a bit more respect as the decade progressed. “Look Sharp” is a favorite, too.

J is also for The Jam

For a band as influential to the British New Wave scene as The Jam, they certainly got rather screwed over in the U.S. popular media — this is the only video of theirs I can recall that MTV ever ran! Still, my favorite Jam song.

Okay, time for me to get out of the way and let you guys add your favorites!

(Oh, and for tomorrow? I promise to try to avoid the perverse temptation of Klaatu! Probably...)
