I don't know if you know this or not but my OTHER great love in life is sports!! Mostly because I like when people argue about stuff that does not matter. It reminds me of my family. I say that so that I can segue into what happened to me last night on twitter. I and another Io9er Sal Merchant got inot an argument about Star Trek and why I am not going to see Into The Darkness. I actually stayed up way past my bedtime to have this debate. And that is when it hit me like a ton of bricks :A GREAT IDEA!!
One of my favorite sport shows in the world is Around the Horn on ESPN. It comes on daily and features sports writers and columnists from across the country who discuss ten topics in sports. The unbiased host , Tony Reali, then awards points based on the argument the columnist make. If they say something really stupid, they get muted lose their turn and a point. After three eliminations the winner then get thirty seconds to talk about WHATEVER they want to at the end of the show. The video is the studio set up and the host who is a Star Wars/Marvel loving stat geek btw
My proposal is that we make that show for geeks nerd enthusiasts or whatever you call yourself. We can call it Around the Shire. And Meredith can host. The original show rotates about twelve to fifteen columnist and I see no reason why to change that. Until we had a steady following we would not have to do it daily just once a week.
What do you think? Should we get a kickstarter? Since its my idea can I be on the first panel. What are our first ten topics?
