A new interview with a former Time Lord might just have dropped the biggest spoiler-bomb about The Day of The Doctor, just three days before the special is due to air. It's big enough that, although the veracity of the rumour isn't quite 100%, I'm willing to add that there could be a Major Spoiler beyond the cut.

As reported by The Huffington Post, Tom Baker has apparently outed his return to the show, 32 years after his last regular appearance. Speaking in a new interview, Baker seemed to fly in the face of the BBC's infamous spoiler guidelines for Doctor Who, and decided to simply come out with it:

"I am in the special," said Baker. "I'm not supposed to tell you that, but I tell you that very willingly and specifically; the BBC told me not to tell anybody but I'm telling you straightaway."

The actor wouldn't be pushed much further on his return, but did add that "It worked out very well, I think, judging by the reactions of the technicians", seemingly implying that his appearance would be aided by the use of CGI. Further fuel was added to the fire by a hastily released statement from the BBC themselves - but it didn't perhaps invoke the tone of denial you might have expected:

As with William Hartnell's recent appearance in the last season finale, anything is possible in Doctor Who. But nothing is certain.

For the BBC, who are typically very quick to flat out deny any kind of unofficially released information, often to the point of ridicule, the response does little to dissuade the fact that Mister Baker could be returning. In fact, it's downright teasing such a thing!

That said, even though it looks to be a solid bit of information that Tom Baker is back this Saturday, this should all still be taken with a grain of salt. After all, Tom's well known for being a wonderfully cheeky interviewee, full of tall tales and exaggerations, as well as a slight penchant for having a bit of a troll with his interviewer. So he might just be pulling our collective legs.

But then again, he might not. We've only got to wait three days to find out though...
