According to The Guardian, researchers at University of California, Los Angeles and other institutes have concluded that there is a greater physical aspect to the disorder than previously thought.

Scientists claim that certain physical conditions may set off inflammatory reaction in the body, causing the brain to behave in such a way that would trigger depression. Mental stresses can also trigger the disorder in addition to the physical distress.

While it seems obvious that depression may be caused by a problem with the body, looking at the disorder from a new perspective may lead to more effective antidepressant medications and treatments.
