As I've mentioned before, I'm pretty deep into the iOS ecosystem, but I am interested in trying out an Android device. Lately, I've been seriously thinking about picking up a Nexus 7 because of the low price, the form factor, the total absence of OEM cruftware, and also because Google is sunsetting the device once the Nexus 9 comes out and I imagine it'll be harder to find in the months ahead.

I'd probably just be using the device for entertainment — videos, ebooks, web browsing, social networking, casual gaming, that sort of thing. I'm curious about how Android differs from iOS and want something smaller than an iPad or iPad mini that can fit comfortably in one hand, which is why I've singled out the Nexus 7 as a major candidate.

Is this a good choice? Are there any alternatives I should consider?
