Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks
Miscalibrated Internet Receptor Stalks

We own a house in Northern New Jersey, which doubles as a production studio where we record podcasts and webseries and live role-playing games and other nerdy things. It snowed a lot here about a week ago, and in our cleanup efforts we discovered one of these:

(Please note, this is just a sample image of the same make and model gun we actually found)

At first I thought it was a toy someone had discarded in the snow bank. I had a water pistol uzi that looked very similar (but plastic) when I was a kid, and like my water pistol, this gun was covered in electrical tape. When I took a closer look, however, it was clear that this thing had moving mechanical parts, was made of metal, and was probably placed their to frame me for a crime I didn't commit.

Since I don't have time to wander the American Midwest trying to clear my good name, I did the right thing and contacted the authorities (who seemed as surprised as I was).

One of our hosts determined it to be a thoroughly rusted Cobray M-12, a .380 semi-auto variant.

So, what do you all think? Is this just a tossed illegal firearm, a stashed gun used in a crime, someone's messy Spring Cleaning, or do I have to worry about a one-armed man out to destroy me?

EDIT: The police did confisgate the gun after we asked them to, and I'll be glad to post updates if they give us any information on the mystery!
