So for my first nuoDeck post now that I'm allowed, I wanted to talk about omgbookcrushes!
I just finished reading Elizabeth Hand's Black Light which was very enjoyable but not quite as amazing as Waking the Moon. I think this is because:
a) less character development and investment than her earlier books including long informational passages about Dionysian cults and more abstract magic than I've come to expect/enjoy.
b) I read Waking the Moon my junior year of high school and I fell in deep hard swoony love with Oliver. Oliver Wilde Crawford. I used to swan around my high school quoting Alice in Wonderland and drawing wristwatches on my arm and dreaming about the back seats of taxi cabs. There was no real Oliver equivalent in Black Light; the closest fellow was written in broad strokes.
So who were your literary crushes, then and (if you want to get real personal) now?
