I've seen a lot of concerns about the lines at Comic-Con. I completely understand these concerns; waiting in line is one of the most torturous aspects of our civilization. Whether it's in traffic during rush hour or mobs at the premiere of the newest Marvel movie, waiting in line is a slow, boring affair. iPads, smartphones, and laptops can only do so much, and getting friends' schedules to mesh sufficiently to make a group excursion feasible can be a daunting task.
Which is why I've come up with an idea that might just work: make Comic-Con Line Waiting an io9 event. Create something akin to a Meetup group, only with Niners. They could all meet somewhere near the convention center ahead of time, divide into smaller groups based on specific panel interests, and then wait in line together. They can get to know each other, share the Niner trademark wit and snark in real time, and it would make the whole experience of waiting in line far more bearable.
It's not without it's potential downsides. There's always the chance that a real-life troll or creep could show up. But honestly, that's a risk regardless, anywhere in life. Most of us have respect for each other, and I think an io9 Line-Waiting Event would really do a lot to bring us all closer and make us a tighter community than we already are.
